  • Started plans to incorporate topics addressing anti-Black racism into the Ethics Bowl.

2022 Update

  • Planning to expand Ontario’s High School Ethics Bowl to focus more intentionally on philosophical perspectives of Black students and other marginalized scholars and groups.

2024 Update

  • Continued to support the Canadian Philosophical Association’s summer program for under-represented students: five out of the program’s fifteen students in 2023 were Black.
    • Organized program talks by Black philosophers, such as former U of T graduates Professor Charles Mills (formerly CUNY, now deceased) and Professor Chike Jeffers (Dalhousie). Created opportunities for Black philosophy students to meet and connect.

2022 Update

  • Supported the Canadian Philosophical Association’s first-ever summer camp for underrepresented students in 2022, led by UTM-faculty member Jennifer Nagel; planning to expand this camp in future years.

  • Aiming to collaborate with student clubs to organize networking events for Black philosophy students, along with seminars on anti-racist philosophical topics.

Creating Research Opportunity Project

  • Created a research opportunity project focused on diversifying philosophy curricula, assembling teaching materials for faculty to implement in early-year courses across U of T’s three campuses.
